MMO Development Myths

May 13, 2010

Delaying the game is good.

What the company would like you to think: It allows us to fix bugs and release the game in a finished state.

Reality: The milestones that we have set, aren’t really as good as we originally planned.  We are in serious damage control and whether or not we release the game now or later the game is gonna be a piece of crap either way.

It’s Beta!

What the company would like you to think:  You may dislike the current state of the game, but don’t worry that’s what beta’s are for.  It’ll be fix.

Reality: Player’s do not like your product, and although it is beta the foundation should be there and enjoyable.  The developers think they understand the concerns, but try to create some superficial changes and fail to address the root of the problem.
